These wholesome tasty bars make perfecttreats for school lunches or snacks anytime of the day.
Recipe: Whole Grain BananaFruit ‘N Nut Bars
1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margerine
1 large egg
1 1/4 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3 small bananas)
1 1/2 cups Quaker oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
2/3 cup chopped pitted dates or golden raisins
2/3 cup chopped toasted walnuts
Makes 24 bars.
- To save time, purchase walnuts and datesalready chopped.
- Other dried fruits may be substitutedfor dates.
- Toasted pecans, almonds or hazelnuts maybe substituted for walnuts.
