These brownies offer three level of tasteand texture. First level, an oat-brown sugar shortbread crust.Second level, a nutty chocolate filling. Third level, a creamychocolate frosting. Enjoy!
Recipe: Tri-Level Brownies
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a medium bowl combine flour, bakingsoda, salt, quick cooking oats, brown sugar, and 6 tablespoonsmelted butter.
Press mixture into a 11 x 7-inch bakingpan. Bake for 10 minutes.
In a small saucepan melt 1 square bakingchocolate on low heat; set aside.
In a large bowl beat sugar, 1/4 cup meltedbutter, melted baking chocolate, and egg with an electric mixeron medium speed for 30 seconds.
Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.Add to creamed chocolate mixture. Stir in milk, 1/2 teaspoonvanilla, and chopped nuts. Spread over hot baked layer. Bakean additional 25 minutes.
Frost when cool. Cut into bars.
Frosting: In a saucepan melt baking chocolateand 2 tablespoons butter. Stir in powdered sugar, 1 teaspoonvanilla, and hot water. Beat until smooth. Spread on topof brownies.

1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup quick cooking oats
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup butter, melted – divided use
2 squares baking chocolate – divided use
1 large egg
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 tablespoons hot water
Makes 12 bars.
