Texan Pralines recipe

Texas is famous for its pecans — theyoften grow right in the backyards — so pralines are easy tofind as well. For Texans living far from home or anyone witha sweet tooth, these pralines will fit the bill.

Recipe: Texan Pralines

2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups whole shelled pecans
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Heat sugar, milk and baking soda in aheavy saucepan over medium heat until the mixture reaches thesoft ball stage, forming a soft ball when dropped into cold water(234° to 236°F).
  • Remove from heat and stir in pecans, butterand vanilla. Beat until well mixed; cool slightly.
  • Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper lightlysprinkled with sugar.

    Makes 12 pieces.
