Southwestern Spice Rub recipe

This homemade southwestern spice rub alsomakes a great gift. To package for gifts, place the plastic zip-lockbags inside small gift bags and garnish with decorative ribbonor raffia and a suitable ‘garnish’ such as a dried pepper.

Recipe: Southwestern SpiceRub

1 tablespoon cumin seeds1 teaspoon coriander seeds8 dried chiles, stemmed and seeded1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed1 teaspoon ground cinnamon1 teaspoon garlic powder1 teaspoon kosher salt1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper1 teaspoon teaspoon round red pepper (cayenne)

  • Cook cumin and coriander seeds in a smallskillet over low heat, stirring constantly for 3 minutes.
  • combine seeds, chiles and remaining ingredientsin an electric blender; process until mixture resembles coarsepowder.
  • Store in an airtight container.

    Makes 2/3 cup.
