Recipe: Sawmill Gravy

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour6 tablespoons fat from frying sausage,ham, chicken or steak1 teaspoon garlic powder1 teaspoon black pepper1 1/2 teaspoon salt1 (10-ounce) can RoTel brand tomatoes(tomatoes and chilies)1 1/2 cups milk

  • Place fat, flour, salt, and pepper intoa 10 to 12-inch skillet. Cook until dark brown stirringcontinuously. Add onions and continue stirring until onions aretender. Add can of Rotel tomatoes andmilk. Continue cooking until gravy is as thick as you likegravy. If it starts to getting too thick,thin with additional milk. Serve onrolls, biscuits, corn bread or mashed potatoes.

    Makes about 3 1/2 cups.
