Roasting Bag Apple Pie recipe

This double-crusted apple pie is uniquein more than just the fact that it’s bake in a roasting bag,it also has streusel sprinkled on top of the apple slices justbefore covering with the top crust.

Recipe: Roasting Bag ApplePie

4 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter
1 oven roasting bag
Pastry for 1 (9-inch) double-crust pie

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Peel, core, and slice apples and placein a large bowl. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour,and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the apples and coat well. Sprinklewith lemon juice.
  • Place one pie crust in a pie pan. Fillwith the apple mixture.
  • In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugarand 1/2 cup flour. Cut in butter, and sprinkle over the apples.
  • Cover the pie with the second pie crust.Make several slits in top of pie crust to vent.
  • Slide the pie into an oven roasting bag,fold the end over, and clip closed. Pierce 6 slits in the topfor steam to escape. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 1 hour.

    Makes 8 servings.
