Rancher’s Steak Sauce recipe

A tangy sauce to serve with beef steak.

Recipe: Rancher’s Steak Sauce

2 tablespoons vegetable oil1 medium onion, finely chopped1 celery rib, finely chopped2 teaspoons anise seeds, crushed1 teaspoon celery seeds1 tablespoon dry mustard1 cup ketchup1 cup bottled chili sauce1/4 cup apple cider or juice3 tablespoons cider vinegar2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce2 tablespoons soy sauce1 tablespoon honey2 tablespoons dark brown sugar, packed

  • In a medium saucepan, heat oil and cookonion and celery over medium heat untilsoftened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add anise seeds and cook,stirring, for 1 minute. Add celery seeds and cook, stirring,for 30 seconds. Stir in the mustarduntil dissolved; stir in remaining ingredients.Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and simmeruncovered until slightly thickened, 15 to20 minutes.

    Keeps for up to 4 weeks, refrigerated.

    Makes about 3 cups sauce.
