Raisin Rice Cereal recipe

Rice for breakfast is a southern favorite,if you’ve never tried it, then here’s a tasty recipe to get youstarted…in the morning.

Recipe: Raisin Rice Cereal

1 cup uncooked rice
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cinnamon stick*

  • Combine rice, raisins, salt, water andbutter in 2 to 3-quart saucepan. Bring to a boil; stir once ortwice. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 15 minutes, or until riceis tender and liquid is absorbed.
  • Heat milk, sugar and cinnamon stick overlow heat. Discard cinnamon stick.
  • Add milk to cooked rice; continue to cookover low heat 5 minutes or until creamy, stirring often.
  • Serve with milk or cream, honey or brownsugar and fresh fruit, if desired.

    Makes 6 servings.

    *No cinnamon sticks? Add a dash or so ofground cinnamon.
