Pit Barbecue Sauce recipe

A sweet and tangy, tomato-based barbecuesauce. Use as a basting sauce for grilled meats.

Recipe: Pit Barbecue Sauce

3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, peeled, crushed
2 cups tomato ketchup
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon liquid hot pepper sauce, (or to taste)

  • Heat oil to a medium saucepan over medium-highheat; add onion and garlic and saut until onion is tender.Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat tosimmer and cook for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Removefrom the heat, and cool.

    Makes about 2 cups.
