Pear Chutney recipe

From the East Indies, chutney is a spicycondiment that contains fruit, vinegar and spices.

Recipe: Pear Chutney

2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 medium-size sweet onion, chopped
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped
2 medium pears, peeled and chopped
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • Melt butter in a small skillet over medium-highheat. Add brown sugar, onion, and jalapeño pepper, andsaut 5 to 6 minutes or until mixture is caramel colored.
  • Add pears and next 3 ingredients; reduceheat, and simmer 6 to 8 minutes.

    Makes 1 1/2 cups.

    I was given over 2 and half kilo of pears from a friends tree so made this – it is a fab chunky chutney and my husband liked it so much he was trying to eat it whilst I was filling the jars!!!
