From the East Indies, chutney is a spicycondiment that contains fruit, vinegar and spices.
Recipe: Pear Chutney
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 medium-size sweet onion, chopped
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped
2 medium pears, peeled and chopped
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Makes 1 1/2 cups.
