Patience Candy recipe

Patience is a virtue, and you’ll need itwhile you’re stirring this candy. But if you fix in your mindthe end result — a caramelize confection strewn with nuts –we think you’ll agree that it’s worth it. (This is a great familyactivity; everyone gets a turn stirring!)

Recipe: Patience Candy

4 cups granulated sugar
1 cup milk
2 cups chopped nuts (any kind)
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt

  • In a heavy saucepan or skillet, heat aboutone fourth of the sugar until melted and light brown (carmelized).
  • In another saucepan, combine remainingsugar and milk; cook over medium-low heat, stirring until dissolved.Slowly add caramelized sugar, stirring constantly. Continue cookinguntil mixture reaches the soft ball stage; it will form a ballwhen dropped in cold water (234° to 236°F). Remove fromheat; add nuts, butter and salt; beat until creamy.
  • Pour into well-greased 9 x 9 x 2-inchpan; cool before cutting into squares.

    Makes 18 servings.
