Orange-Lemon Squares recipe

Basting the lemon syrup over these squaresgives an extra citrus twist. Try these when you want a lightdessert or treat.

Recipe: Orange-Lemon Squares

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
2/3 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour,sugar, baking powder and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil and orangepeel; mix well. Pour into a greased 9-inch baking pan.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until center is set.
  • Meanwhile, combine powdered sugar andlemon juice in a small mixing bowl; pour the syrup on top ofwarm cake and return to the oven for 5 minutes.
  • Baste the top with any syrup that collectsaround the edges. Cool in the pan on a wire rack before cuttinginto bars.

    Makes 24 servings.

    I am a huge fan of citrus, I bring a grapefruit every day for lunch, and although I ve taken out a few eyes with the juice, that tangy fruit is always worth the labor to me. So when my brother s school was selling Florida oranges and grapefruits as a fundraiser, I was all over it. I received 2 big crates, and was so amazed at just how I m so sorry the recipe didn t turn out well for you! No, I definitely meant granulated sugar, not icing sugar. Have you been having any trouble with your oven? I m not sure what went wrong, sorry!
