Nutty Chocolate Bars recipe

A cookie bar with a shortbread crust anda chocolate filling topped with walnuts.

Recipe: Nutty Chocolate Bars

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
Aluminum foil
1/4 cup butter or margarine
4 ounces sweet baking chocolate
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped

  • Combine flour and sugar. Cut in 1/2 cupbutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press firmlyinto the bottom of a greased, aluminum foil lined, 13 x 9-inchbaking pan.
  • Bake for 20 minutes at 375°F (190°C).
  • Meanwhile, microwave 1/4 cup butter andsweet baking chocolate on HIGH until melted, about 1 1/2 minutes.Stir until smooth, add light corn syrup, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.Pour over the crust. Sprinkle the top with chopped walnuts.
  • Bake for an additional 30 minutes, oruntil the filling is set. Cool in the pan before cutting.

    Makes 16 bars.
