Nanaimo Bars recipe

Named after the West-Coast city of Nanaimo,British Columbia, this layered bar is one of Canada’s favoriteand best known confections.

Recipe: Nanaimo Bars

Base:2 squares (2-ounces) semi-sweet chocolate2 cups graham cracker crumbs1 cup coconut1/2 cup softened butter1/2 cup chopped walnuts2 tablespoons granulated sugar1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 large egg

  • Combine ingredients. Press into 9-inchsquare cake pan. Chill.Filling:1/4 cup butter, softened3 tablespoons milk2 tablespoons instant vanilla pudding2 cups powdered sugar
  • Combine butter, milk, and custard powder.Blend in powdered sugar. Spread overbase. Chill at least 15 minutes.Glaze:4 squares (4-ounces) semi-sweet chocolate1 tablespoon butter
  • Partially melt chocolate and butter. Removefrom heat and stir until melted. Spreadover custard layer. Serve chilled.
  • Store in refrigerator, covered, up to1 month.

    Makes 24 bars.

    Because I hate cake, Nanaimo Bars were what my mom made for me instead of birthday cake! Bird’s Custard powder is what we use, and we also add a little butter to the top layer to keep it softer, and easier to cut. Is there something that can be used in place of almond flour? These sound awesome, however I’m alergic to almonds, everyone else can enjoy almonds but nooooo not me. ??
