Mincemeat Crumble Dessert Squares recipe

These old-fashioned mincemeat dessert squaresare a memorable dessert to serve for the holidays.

Recipe: Mincemeat CrumbleDessert Squares

1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup quick oats
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 jar plain mincemeat or with brandy & rum
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).Grease 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  • Stir together sugar, butter, and shorteningin medium bowl until smooth. Add flour, oats, baking powder,salt and baking soda; stir until crumbly. Press 2 cups crumblemixture onto bottom of prepared baking pan. Spread with mincemeat;sprinkle with nuts. Top with remaining crumble mixture; pressdown lightly.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightlygolden. Cool to room temperature in pan on wire rack. Cut into3-inch squares

    Makes 12 servings.
