Maple Walnut Bars recipe

A cookie bar with a shortbread crust toppedwith a sweet maple and walnut filling.

Recipe: Maple Walnut Bars

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 large egg
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Combine flour, sugar and 1/4 teaspoonsalt. Cut 1/2 cup butter into mixture with a pastry blender orfork until crumbly. Press into bottom and sides of 9-inch squarepan. Bake for 15 minutes. Cool.
  • Combine brown sugar, syrup, egg, meltedbutter, vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon salt; blend well. Pour overbaked crust; sprinkle with nuts.
  • Place a “tent” of foil overbaking pan and bake for 30 minutes.

    Makes about 16 bars.

    Well your dad is in for a real treat this year when he gets a dessert with his favorite nut! These maple walnut bars sound delicious! Especially since you got walnuts right from the source. Your tour of the walnut groves sounds so fun! And guess what? My grandpa calls them ah-munds too, and I love it. Getting to see the walnut orchard was so interesting. It shows much more depth into the recipe and how everything comes together. So excited to read this. Also adding this one to my must-make-list. They look so yummy! Maybe they can be my contribution to Thanksgiving dessert?!
