Maple Dried Cherry Syrup recipe

Serve this deliciously sweet and zestymaple cherry syrup, studded with dried cherries, warm over pancakesor waffles.

Recipe: Maple Dried CherrySyrup

3/4 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
Juice of one orange plus 1 teaspoon zest
Juice of 1/2 lemon plus 1/2 teaspoon zest
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped dried tart cherries

  • Combine maple syrup, brown sugar, honey,orange juice and zest, lemon juice and zest, butter and cinnamonin a medium saucepan. Stir well and bring to a boil over mediumheat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to a simmer and gentlycook for 10 minutes. Add cherries; cook 1 minute.

    Makes 1 1/2 cups syrup.

    To make the syrup, bring the maple syrup to a boil in a medium-size saucepan. Immediately remove from the heat and stir in the chopped cherries. Let stand at least 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator. Strain.
