Maple Cherry Sauce recipe

This sauce is terrific with roasted orgrilled meats or poultry.

Recipe: Maple Cherry Sauce

1/3 cup cherry juice blend
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup frozen unsweetened tart cherries*, thawed and drained
3/4 cup maple-flavored syrup
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon finely grated orange peel

  • Put cherry juice blend and cornstarchin a small saucepan; mix well. Cook over medium heat until thickened.Add cherries, maple-flavored syrup, walnuts and orange peel;mix well. Cook, stirring frequently, over low heat until allingredients are hot. Serve over roast turkey, pork or ham.

    Makes about 2 cups.

    * 1 (16-ounce) can unsweetened tart cherries,well drained, can be substituted for frozen tart cherries.

    When you re ready to make the waffles, transfer the sauce back to your sauce pan and stir in the maple syrup. Taste and add more syrup if you prefer. You can also add a little more water for a thinner sauce. Cook over medium heat until thoroughly heated, turn down to low to keep warm until ready to serve.
