Lemon Liqueur recipe

This lively, lemony liqueur may be a goodchoice for your first attempt at making cordials.

Recipe: Lemon Liqueur

1 cup water
2 cups granulated sugar
3 tablespoons lemon zest
1/4 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 1/2 cups 100-proof vodka
5 to 10 drops yellow food coloring

  • Make a simple syrup by bringing sugarand water to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantlyto prevent scorching. When clear, remove from heat and let standuntil just warm. Pour into clean 2-quart jar with tight-fittinglid. Add lemon zest, lemon juice, vodka, and food coloring. Coverand let stand in a cool, dark place for 1 month.
  • Rack or filter liqueur into final presentationcontainer such as a wine bottle, fruit jar or decanter.

    Makes 1 quart approximately.

    I was a little worried that the boiling water would cause some of the alcohol to boil off when you mixed it, but I might try letting some if it cool down before I mixed next time. Will you share recipes?
