Lemon Bars recipe

Lemon Bars.

Create a taste that is as refreshing asan icy glass of lemonade. These mouth-watering bars are a greattreat anytime of the year.

Recipe: Lemon Bars

Crust:2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softenedFilling:
1 (14-ounce) can NESTL ® CARNATION® SweetenedCondensed Milk
4 large eggs
2/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 drops yellow food coloring, optional
1 tablespoon grated lemon peelOptional: sifted powdered sugar

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • For Crust: Combine flour and sugar inmedium bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knivesuntil mixture is crumbly. Press lightly onto bottom and halfwayup sides of ungreased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  • Bake for 20 minutes.
  • For Filling: Beat sweetened condensedmilk and eggs in large mixer bowl until fluffy. Beat in lemonjuice, flour, baking powder, salt and food coloring just untilblended. Fold in lemon peel; pour over crust.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until fillingis set and crust is golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack. Refrigeratefor about 2 hours. Cut into bars; sprinkle with powdered sugar.

    Makes 48 (4 dozen) bars.
