Irish Oatmeal recipe

Steel cut oats are the secret to the firmer,heartier texture of this cereal. Steel cut oats are readily availablethrough most supermarkets and health food stores.

Recipe: Irish Oatmeal

2 1/2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup steel cut oats
1/4 cup millet
Golden raisins
Dried cranberries
Sliced almondsHalf-and-half or milk for accompaniment

  • In a medium saucepan, add water and salt.Bring to a boil then stir in oats and millet. Reduce heat tolow. Cover and allow to cook, simmering gently, for 15 to 20minutes until grain is tender and water is absorbed. It is notnecessary to stir the oatmeal as it is cooking.
  • Spoon into serving bowls and top withraisins, dried cranberries and almonds and drizzle with half-and-halfor milk.

    Makes 3 to 4 servings.

    Hi! I just found your site after searching for how to cook steel cut oats, my daughter has to have her oatmeal in the morning and we ran out of the other type of oats. So I have it sitting on the stove and we shall see 0 in the morning. Thanks for the recipe!
