Holiday Florentines recipe

Orange-scented, crisp toffee-like cookiestopped with a lovely drizzle of chocolate.

Recipe: Holiday Florentines

1/2 cup heavy cream1/2 cup granulated sugar1 cup finely chopped almonds or hazelnuts1/4 pound finely chopped candied orangepeel1/4 cup all-purpose flour1/8 teaspoon saltChocolate Icing:1 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate pieces2 tablespoons heavy cream or water

  • Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightlygrease baking sheets.
  • Combine first six ingredients, mixingwell.
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls, 2-inches apart,onto prepared baking sheets. Flatten eachwith a knife dipped in cold water.
  • Bake about 10 minutes or until brownedaround the edges.
  • Cool, flat side up, on wireracks.
  • Drizzle chocolate icing decoratively overcooled cookies.
  • For Chocolate Icing: Melt chocolate ina double boiler; add cream or water. Stir until smooth.

    Makes 24.
