Gooey Butter Chess Cake recipe

Recipe: Gooey Butter ChessCake

1 (18.25-ounce) package yellow buttercake mix
2 large eggs
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 cup cooked grits *
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
1 (16-ounce) package powdered sugar
2 large eggs (in addition to above)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Combine first 4 ingredients in large mixingbowl. Beat thoroughly. Spread mixture in a well-greased 9 x 13-inchbaking pan.
  • Beat next 4 ingredients until smooth andcreamy. Pour over cake batter.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool and cutinto bars. (Topping will be “gooey”.)

    Makes 24 to 36 servings.

    Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.
