Fudgy Chocolate Cookie Squares recipe

Garnished with chocolate chips and choppednuts, a fudgy chocolate filling tops a chocolate shortbread crust.

Recipe: Fudgy Chocolate CookieSquares

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
1 cup butter
1 (12-ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips – divided use
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped nuts

  • Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Greasea 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan; set aside.
  • Combine flour, sugar and cocoa in mediumbowl; cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Press firmly on bottom of prepared bakingpan. Bake 15 minutes.
  • Combine 1 cup chocolate chips, sweetenedcondensed milk and vanilla in medium saucepan. Cook over mediumheat, stirring constantly, until chips are melted.
  • Pour evenly over baked crust. Top withnuts and remaining 1 cup chips.
  • Bake additional 20 minutes or until set.Cool in pan on wire rack.
  • Cut into bars.

    Makes about 24 squares.
