Fried Pie Pastry recipe

Use with your favorite fried pie fillings.

Recipe: Fried Pie Pastry

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 large egg, beaten
1/4 cup ice water
1 teaspoon white vinegar

  • Combine flour and salt. Cut in shorteningwith pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Combineegg and water; sprinkle lightly over flour mixture. Add vinegarand stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Shapeinto a ball. Wrap dough in wax paper. Chill for at least onehour.
  • Use as directed in any fried pie recipe.

    Makes about twelve 5-inch pastry shells.
