French Butter Cream Cookies recipe

Recipe: French Butter CreamCookies

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Combine sugar, butter, egg, vanilla, bakingsoda, cream of tartar and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Beatuntil light and creamy. Add flour gradually until well blended.Wrap dough in plastic and chill for an hour.
  • Shape dough into 3/4-inch balls andplace 2 inches apart on a baking sheet. Flatten with a fork.If desired, sprinkle with colored sugar.
  • Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until set, butnot browned. Cool on cookie sheet for 10 minutes before removingto a wire rack.

    Makes 48 cookies.
