Five-Spice Ribs with Molasses Glaze recipe

The intriguing flavor, and irresistiblearoma, of these ribs will have your guests asking for the recipe.Ribs make a great “company” meal—just rub, roastand relax. Serve with marinated cucumbers and a black bean andcorn salad.

Recipe: Five-Spice Ribs withMolasses Glaze

2 slabs pork back ribs, about 3 1/2 to4 pounds total
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons five-spice powder
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper1 cup ketchup1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons soy sauce1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

  • In small bowl stir together ketchup, molasses,lemon juice, soy sauce and hot pepper sauce; set aside.
  • In another small bowl stir together brownsugar, five-spice, cloves, coriander, salt, paprika, celery seedand black pepper. Rub dry spice mixture over ribs; set aside.
  • Prepare medium banked fire in coveredgrill. Place ribs on grill, away from direct heat, cover grilland let ribs slowly roast for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Remove grill cover and slather ribs withglaze on both sides; cover grill and roast for 15 to 20 minutesmore, until ribs are nicely glazed.
