English Malt Bread recipe

Enjoy a slice of this sweet, raisin quickbread with softened, salted butter and a cup of tea.

Recipe: English Malt Bread

1 cup all-bran cereal
1 cup raisins
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 cup self-rising flour*

  • Mix all-bran, raisins, milk and brownsugar; let soak for 1 hour.
  • Stir in the flour; and spoon into a greased9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1hour. Let stand for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Coolon wire rack. Wrap tightly to store.

    Makes 1 loaf.

    *Or you may substitute with 1 cup all purposeflour, 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
