Date Bars.

This chewy, cinnamon-scented oatmeal barboasts a delightfully sweet date filling that is sure to please.These bars are perfect for lunch box treats and snacking anytimeof the day.

Recipe: Date Bars

8 ounces chopped dates3/4 cup NESTL ® CARNATION®Evaporated Milk2 tablespoons granulated sugar1 teaspoon vanilla extract1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened1/2 cup packed light brown sugar1 cup all-purpose flour3/4 cup quick-cooking oats1/2 teaspoon baking soda1/2 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).Grease 8-inch-square baking pan.
  • Combine dates, evaporated milk, sugarand vanilla extract in medium saucepan. Cook, over medium-lowheat, stirring occasionally, for 8 to 10 minutes or until thickened.Remove from heat.
  • Beat butter and brown sugar in large mixerbowl until creamy. Beat in flour, oats, baking soda, salt andcinnamon. With floured fingers, press half of crust mixture ontobottom of prepared baking pan. Spread date filling over crust.Top with remaining crust.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden.

    Makes 16 bars.
