Curried Fruit with Ham Steak recipe

The ham steak in this recipe can also begrilled or pan-grilled.

Recipe: Curried Fruit withHam Steak

1 (15 1/2-ounce) can tropical fruit salador chunky mixed fruit1 (1 1/2 pounds) fully-cooked center-cutham slice, cut 3/4-inch thick1 small onion, chopped1/2 to 1 teaspoon curry powder or 1/8teaspoon ground nutmeg or ginger1 tablespoon butter or margarine2 teaspoons cornstarch1/4 cup pineapple juice or orange juice

  • Drain fruit, reserving syrup. Set aside.
  • Trim fat from ham. Place ham on the unheatedrack of broiler pan. Broil 3 to 4 inches from the heat for 12to 14 minutes or until heated through, turning once.
  • Meanwhile, for sauce, in a small saucepancook onion and curry powder (or nutmeg or ginger), in butterover medium heat until onion is tender. Stir in cornstarch. Addpineapple or orange juice and reserved fruit syrup. Cook andstir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 2 minutesmore. Carefully stir in drained fruit. Heat though.
  • Serve warm sauce over ham.

    Makes 6 servings.
