Corn Dog Bread recipe

This extremely unusual yeast corn breadhas all the makings of a hot dog and more. Source unknown.

Recipe: Corn Dog Bread

1 (1/4-ounce) package active dry yeastor 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 tablespoon wheat germ
2 teaspoons mustard seed
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 cup diced processed cheese spread
1 large egg
3 tablespoons pickle relish
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 hot dogs, diced

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • In a bowl, combine ginger, sugar, flour,cornmeal, wheat germ, mustard seeds, salt, dry mustard, dicedprocessed cheese spread, egg, pickle relish, oil, and diced hotdogs. Stir in the yeast mixture and knead to form a soft dough.
  • Place in a greased bowl, turning onceto coat, cover, and allow to rise until doubled; about 1 1/2hours.
  • Punch down; form in a greased loaf pan,and allow to rise again; about 1 hour.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to25 minutes, or until the top is browned.

    Makes 1 loaf.

    I know that fairs and carnivals probably aren t serving up Zweigle s or Nathan s or Hebrew Nationals in their corn dogs, but somehow the ambiance of a fair makes up for it. I just don t have the carnival barkers, brightly colored tents or enough tattoos to compensate at home.


    I swear, if I had found this recipe yesterday, I would be eating corn dog bread in about 23 minutes.
