The literal translation of Cola de Monois “monkey’s tail.” While the exact origin ofthis unusual title is unknown, one theory is that this potentChristmas drink will have you swinging like a monkey! Anotherstory links the name to former Chilean President, Pedro Montt.Whatever its origins, you’ll enjoy toasting family and friendsat the holidays—or any time of year—with this creamycreation.

Recipe: Cola de Mono: TraditionalChilean Holiday Beverage

1 (12-ounce) can NESTL ® CARNATION®Evaporated Milk1/2 cup water1/4 cup granulated sugar or to taste3 whole cloves1 cinnamon stick1 tablespoon NESCAF CLASICO InstantCoffee Granules1 teaspoon vanilla extractPinch ground nutmeg1 cup Chilean aguardiente, white rum,brandy or vodka

  • Combine evaporated milk, water, sugar,cloves and cinnamon stick in medium saucepan. Bring to a gentleboil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until sugardissolves. Add coffee granules; stir to dissolve. Add vanillaextract and nutmeg. Remove from heat. Cool 20 minutes. Removecloves and cinnamon stick. Add brandy. Pour into empty bottle.Refrigerate until chilled, about 4 hours.
  • To Serve: Serve in aperitif glasses fora 2-ounce serving. Garnish with cinnamon stick.

    Makes 4 servings.

    Tip: For a twist on flavor, a 2-inch pieceof orange peel can be added when boiling milk and spices.
