Chocolate Truffles recipe

These delicious chocolate truffles areeasy to make, and are great for gift-giving.

Recipe: Chocolate Truffles

3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Cocoa, powdered sugar or finely chopped nuts for coating

  • In a heavy saucepan, melt butter overlow heat; add cocoa and stir until smooth.
  • Stir in the sweetened condensed milk andcook, stirring constantly until mixture is thick, smooth andglossy, about 4 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.Cover; refrigerate 3 to 4 hours or until firm.
  • Shape into 1 1/4-inch balls; roll in cocoaor powdered sugar to coat. Refrigerate until firm, 1 to 2 hours.Store, covered, in refrigerator.

    Makes about 2 1/2 dozen candies.

    After hearing that the chocolate was quite bitter, and i’m not over keen on dark chocolate, I decided to substitute it for milk chocolate. I found that mix was of similar consistency as sticky icing. It was far too mushy and sticky to work with and, unfortunately, to sweet to eat as it was. I think it will probably end up in the bin. For anyone going to try this recipe, don’t use milk chocolate! How long can you keep the truffles for? both in and out of the fridge? I was planning on making them a week before christmas before I go home but can’t exactly ‘hide’ them in the family fridge!
