Chocolate Pecan Bars recipe

These cakelike cookie bars are topped withchocolate and pecans.

Recipe: Chocolate Pecan Bars

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup butter or margarine
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Combine brown sugar, butter, egg yolkand vanilla in a large bowl. Mix well. Blend in flour and salt.Press mixture into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightlybrowned. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolatechips on top.
  • Let stand until chocolate is soft, thenspread evenly over the crust. Sprinkle pecans on top. Cool.

    Makes 16 bars.

    My son and I were so looking forward to trying these. We re disappointed the crust just isn t good. I m guessing there s not enough sugar in the crust. It has a flat, floury taste. We are big pecan pie lovers and more so with chocolate. However, this recipe wasn t the answer. I love these mostly because they have pecans and chocolate, and that right there is good stuff. But, I also love that they are in bars as opposed to a pie. Because they are smaller it means that I can eat more right?
