Chocolate Drop Thumbprints recipe

No jelly here, this gem of a thumbprintcookie has chocolate-filled centers.

Recipe: Chocolate Drop Thumbprints

1 cup butter1/4 cup granulated sugar1/2 teaspoon almond extract2 cups all-purpose flour1/2 teaspoon salt1 cup powdered sugar2 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa1 tablespoon hot water1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugaruntil light and fluffy. Blend in almond extract.Stir in flour and salt; mixing well.
  • Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreasedbaking sheets. Press thumb in centerof each.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brownaround edges. Transfer to wire racksto cool.
  • Combine the powdered sugar and cocoa ina small bowl. Add water and vanillaand mix well. Spoon chocolate mixture into “thumb print”of cooled cookies.

    Makes 5 dozen.
