Chocolate Dessert Waffles recipe

Homemade chocolate waffles served witha scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with a luscious hotfudge sauce.

Recipe: Chocolate DessertWaffles

Hot Fudge Sauce:3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons evaporated milk (a 5-ounce can)
1/3 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extractWaffles:1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder1/4 cup butter, melted3/4 cup granulated sugar2 large eggs2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup buttermilk*Vanilla ice cream for accompaniment

  • For Hot Fudge Sauce: In a small saucepan,combine sugar and cocoa; gradually stir in evaporated milk andcorn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, untilmixture boils; cook and stir 1 minute. Removefrom heat; add butter and vanilla, stirring until butter is melted.Set aside.
  • For Waffles: In a medium bowl combineflour, baking soda, salt and nuts, if desired; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat together with anelectric mixer the cocoa and butter until smooth; add sugar,eggs and vanilla and beat well.
  • Stir in flour mixture alternately withbuttermilk to the cocoa mixture.
  • Bake in waffle iron according to manufacturer’sdirections. Carefully remove waffle from iron.
  • Serve waffles warm with a scoop of vanillaice cream and warm Hot Fudge Sauce ladled over all.

    Makes about 10 (4-inch) waffles.

    *Or place 1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegarin a measuring cup and add milk to equal 1/2 cup. Allow to setfor 2 to 3 minutes before using.
