Chanukah Cut-Out Cookies recipe

As delicious as they look, this is theperfect dough for dreidel and menorah cut-outs.

Recipe: Chanukah Cut-OutCookies

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 orange, zested* and juiced
1 large egg, beaten

  • Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and saltinto a large bowl. Add vegetable oil, orange juice, orange zestand beaten egg and mix until a dough forms. Divide dough into4 parts; wrap each in wax paper and refrigerate for 1 hour oruntil firm enough to roll.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  • On a floured surface, roll dough ballsout, one at a time, to 1/4-inch thick. Using cookie cutters,cut out desired shapes and transfer to prepared baking sheet.Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden. Cool on wire racks.

    Makes 48 cookies.

    *Fruit zest – Zest is the outermost layerof citrus fruit (usually oranges or lemons) and is removed witha zester, fine grater or vegetable peeler. Only the colored portionof the skin, and not the white pith, is considered the zest.
