Buttermilk Pound Cake recipe

Buttermilk contributes to the tendernessand a delightful tangy taste in this rich, buttery pound cake.

Recipe: Buttermilk PoundCake

1 cup butter
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup buttermilk

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).Grease and flour a loaf pan.
  • Cream butter and sugar together untilfluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Add lemon juice and vanilla;blend well.
  • Sift together flour, salt, baking sodaand baking powder. Add the dry mixture to the creamed mixturealternately with buttermilk. Beat well after each addition.
  • Pour into prepared pan; bake 20 to 25minutes, or until the center is set. Cool on a wire rack for10 minutes before removing from pan.

    Makes 12 servings.
