Black Forest Brownies recipe

Chopped maraschino cherries are baked insidethe batter of these chocolate frosted brownies.

Recipe: Black Forest Brownies

Brownies:1 1/3 cups all purpose flour1 teaspoon baking powder1/2 teaspoon salt1 cup butter or margarine1 cup baking (unsweetened) cocoa4 large eggs, beaten2 cups granulated sugar1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract1 teaspoon almond extract1 cup chopped maraschino cherries1/2 cup chopped nutsIcing:1/4 cup butter or margarine1 teaspoon vanilla extract2 cups confectioner’s (powdered) sugar6 tablespoons baking cocoa1/4 cup milk1/4 chopped nuts

  • For Brownies: Combine flour, baking powderand salt; set aside. In a large saucepan, melt butter. Remove from the heat andstir in cocoa until smooth. Blend ineggs, sugar and extracts. Stir in flourmixture, cherries and nuts.
  • Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch bakingpan.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F(175°C) for 35 minutes or until brownies testdone.
  • For Icing: Blend butter, vanilla, sugar,cocoa and milk until smooth; spreadover hot brownies. Sprinkle with nuts, cool.

    Makes 3 dozen bars.

    I love cherry season. I would walk through the Black Forest for these brownies well that can be scary maybe I would just walk to your house. Wow Kate, so decadent! I?m on a brownie kick too, with hazelnut liqueur, and I can only imagine how cherries would fit there too. Such a foodie of a daughter you have!


    You don t have to make them from scratch if you don t want to. Just pick up your favorite brownie mix, or make your favorite brownie recipe, and follow the instructions to the whipped cream and the cherries. You don t think I d give my babe alcohol, do you?
