Banana-Orange Date Oatmeal recipe

Starting your day with a bowlful of thisflavorful oatmeal will make any day a special occasion.

Recipe: Banana-Orange DateOatmeal

2 cups orange juice
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
3/4 cup chopped dates or raisins or a combinationof both
1 ripe banana, dicedChopped nuts, preferably roasted* foraccompaniment (optional)Milk for accompaniment (optional)Brown sugar, sugar, honey for accompaniment(optional)

  • In medium saucepan, bring orange juice,water, salt and nutmeg to a boil. Stir in oats and dates.
  • Return to a boil; reduce heat.
  • Cook 1 minute for quick oats or 5 minutesfor old fashioned oats or until most of liquid is absorbed, stirringoccasionally.
  • Stir in banana.
  • Let stand until of desired consistency.
  • Serve topped with milk and sweetened asdesired.

    Makes 5 servings.

    *Before cooking oatmeal, pan-roast thenuts over medium heat, stirring constantly, until nuts are fragrantand lightly brown. Set aside until ready to use.

    This recipe is as close as I can get to the delicious cookies my mother use to make when I was a little girl. Spicy oatmeal cookies with banana and walnuts.


    I don’t know that it was just like banana bread as the recipe submitter stated, but the banana really shined through. Did you make it better somehow?
